Welcome to the Hub!
UVA’s Innovation Hub at Charlottesville Middle School
What does that mean?
Computationally-rich: Using computational thinking skills to solve problems methodically and scientifically. This builds students' confidence and expertise in applying logic and critical thinking to solve new, complex problems.
Project-based-learning: An instructional approach where students actively explore real-world problems through extended projects, promoting student agency through voice and choice and fostering mastery through deep inquiry, reflection, and revision.
Our goal is to promote student achievement through computationally-rich project-based learning.
We have three primary programs, each tightly interwoven to support the student and their growth.
Innovation Hub Classrooms: Where our Innovation Specialists deliver engaging project-based-learning, usually leveraging technology like robotics kits and block-based coding tools.
Innovation Hub Fellowship: Each year, we support a cohort of Charlottesville Middle School teachers in an immersive year-long training program to support the use of project-based-learning and innovative technology in classrooms throughout the school.
Community Partnerships: We work with local community partners like C4K, Boys and Girls Club, and Starr Hill Pathways (via the UVA Center for Community Partnerships) to engage students outside of the classroom with contextual real-world projects .
